Legal Compliance & Requirements
Important Legal Notice
Please review all legal requirements before visiting or purchasing from this location.
Age Restrictions
Per federal law, individuals must be 21 years of age or older to purchase a handgun from an FFL dealer. For long guns (rifles and shotguns), the minimum age is 18. To obtain a Texas License To Carry (LTC), applicants must generally be 21 years old, or 18 years old if they are active duty military personnel.
Background Check Requirements
All firearm purchases from Central Texas Firearms Training, as a licensed FFL dealer, require a mandatory NICS (National Instant Criminal Background Check System) background check, as mandated by federal law. This process ensures compliance with all applicable regulations.
Prohibited Persons
Federal law strictly prohibits the sale of firearms to certain individuals, including but not limited to, convicted felons, those convicted of domestic violence misdemeanors, individuals subject to restraining orders, unlawful users of controlled substances, and those adjudicated as mentally defective or committed to a mental institution. State laws may also apply.
Waiting Periods
Texas does not have a state-mandated waiting period for firearm purchases. Once the NICS background check is approved, the firearm can typically be transferred.
State & Local Regulations
In Texas, individuals must meet specific eligibility requirements to obtain a License To Carry (LTC), including residency, age, and a clean criminal record. Our LTC classes thoroughly cover these requirements and relevant Texas firearms laws.
Safe Storage Recommendations
While Texas does not have a specific state law mandating safe storage, Central Texas Firearms Training strongly advocates for responsible firearm ownership, which includes securely storing all firearms to prevent unauthorized access, especially by minors or prohibited persons. We recommend using gun safes, lock boxes, or trigger locks.
