Century International Arms began in 1961 when William Sucher, a typewriter repairman in Montreal, accepted a Lee–Enfield rifle as payment for a repair. Realizing the demand for surplus firearms, Sucher shifted his business focus and, with his brother-in-law Manny Weigensberg, began importing military surplus rifles and handguns from around the world. By the 1970s, Century had become the largest importer of surplus firearms in North America, supplying collectors, shooters, and dealers with affordable military hardware. The company faced challenges such as shifting regulations, supply shortages, and controversies over international arms deals, but adapted by expanding into manufacturing its own firearms when surplus sources dwindled. Major milestones include the move of headquarters to Florida in the 1990s, the acquisition of a Vermont manufacturing facility, and the introduction of popular models like the AK-47 and Canik pistols. Today, Century International Arms continues to innovate, offering a broad product line and serving a diverse global market, with a vision to remain a leader in affordable, reliable firearms for all segments.
