Milkor’s story began in 1981 when Andries C. Piek, recognizing a gap in infantry firepower, developed the world’s first 6-shot 40mm Multiple Grenade Launcher (MGL). The innovation quickly caught the attention of the South African Defence Force, which adopted the system as the Y2 in 1983. This breakthrough not only set a new standard for rapid-fire grenade launchers but also established Milkor as a leader in military technology. Overcoming the challenges of operating in a highly regulated and competitive industry, Milkor expanded its reach, supplying its launchers to over 56 countries and adapting its designs for both lethal and less-lethal applications. In 2015, the company underwent a strategic rejuvenation, broadening its focus to include turnkey defense solutions for air, land, and sea, and establishing international branches to better serve a global clientele. Major milestones include the development of advanced unmanned systems and naval platforms, reflecting Milkor’s commitment to innovation and adaptability.
